Abdelkader Suspended for Game Against Finland

MINSK, Belarus -- Forward Justin Abdelkader (Muskegon, Mich./Michigan State Univ./Detroit Red Wings) of the U.S. Men’s National Team has been suspended for one game, the International Ice Hockey Federation announced today. The IIHF Disciplinary Panel issued the suspension due to a knee-on-knee hit during yesterday’s (May 16) game vs. Kazakhstan. Abdelkader, Team USA's captain, will sit out tomorrow's (May 18) game against Finland.

In five games, Abdelkader has tallied a goal and an assist.

Team USA is 2-1-0-2 (W-OTW-OTL-L) with two games remaining in the preliminary round. Next on the schedule is Finland tomorrow (May 18). Game time is 9:45 a.m. ET with live television coverage to be provided by NBC Sports Network.
