U.S. Faces Finland Tomorrow to Open 2015 IIHF Men's World Championship

UPDATE - April 30

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Forwards Anders Lee (Edina, Minn./NY Islanders/University of Notre Dame) and Brock Nelson (Warroad, Minn./NY Islanders/University of North Dakota) and goaltender Jack Campbell (Port Huron, Mich./Texas Stars) have been added to the 2015 U.S. Men's National Team that will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Hockey Championship May 1-17 in Ostrava and Prague, Czech Republic.

Lee is making his first appearance with a U.S. national team, while Nelson has previously played for Team USA in the 2014 IIHF Men's World Championship and on the U.S. team that captured the bronze medal at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship. Campbell has played in six IIHF world championships as a member of Team USA and has three gold medals (2009 & 2010 U18, 2010 World Juniors) and one bronze medal (2011 World Juniors) to his credit.

Playing his first full season in the National Hockey League in 2014-15, Lee competed in 76 regular-season games for the New York Islanders and recorded 25 goals and 16 assists for 41 total points. He played college hockey at Notre Dame University and also competed one season in the United States Hockey League with the Green Bay Gamblers.

Nelson finished his second full campaign with the NHL's New York Islanders in 2014-15. He played in all 82 regular-season games and recorded 42 points, including 20 goals. Nelson competed for the University of North Dakota after his days playing high school hockey at fabled Warroad (Minn.) High School.

Campbell recently completed his third full season and fourth overall with the Texas Stars of the AHL. He played in 35 regular-season games in 2014-15 with a 14-14-5-2-0 (w-l-ot-sow-sol) record, 3.03 goals against average and .907 save percentage.

Team USA's roster now has 13 forwards, eight defensemen, and three goaltenders.

NOTES: Lee was second in the regular-season in goals for the Islanders with 25, while Nelson was third with 20 ... Forward Stefan Matteau (Chicago, Ill./Albany) has returned to the U.S. after suffering an injury in the team's exhibition game against Austria on Tuesday (April 28).

UPDATE -- April 27

Defenseman Seth Jones (Plano, Tex.) has been added to the 2015 U.S. Men's National Team that will compete in the IIHF Men's World Hockey Championship May 1-17 in Ostrava and Prague, Czech Republic.

The 20-year-old Jones is already a three-time gold medalist, having helped the U.S. to the top prize at both the 2011 and 2012 IIHF Men's Under-18 World Championship and the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship. He also played for Team USA in last year's (2014) IIHF Men's World Championship, earning a directorate award as the tournament's Best Defenseman.

Jones, who played two seasons (2010-12) with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Michigan, recently completed his second season of professional hockey, both with the NHL's Nashville Predators. In 2014-15, he played in all 82 regular-season games and contributed 27 points on eight goals and 19 assists. He also played in all six of Nashville's playoff games and recorded four assists.

UPDATE -- April 26

Forward Nick Bonino (Hartford, Conn./Vancouver Canucks) has been added to the 2015 U.S. Men's National Team that will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship May 1-17 in Ostrava and Prague, Czech Republic.

Bonino will be playing for a U.S. national team for the first time.

He spent the 2014-15 season as a member of the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League and in 75 regular-season games contributed 39 points, including 15 goals and 24 assists. Bonino played three seasons of college hockey at Boston University (2007-10) before embarking on his professional career. Prior to joining Vancouver, he was part of the Anaheim Ducks organization for five seasons (2009-14). All total, Bonino has played in 264 regular-season NHL games with 48 goals and 73 assists for 121 points.

Team USA's roster now has 12 forwards, seven defensemen, and two goaltenders.

UPDATE - April 23

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck (Commerce, Mich./St. John's) has been added to the 2015 U.S. Men's National Team that will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship May 1-17 in Ostrava and Prague, Czech Republic.

Hellebuyck was also a member of the 2014 U.S. Men's National Team that competed at the IIHF Men's World Championship last May in Minsk, Belarus, but he did not see game action. He spent the 2014-15 season competing for St. John's of the American Hockey League, an affiliate of the National Hockey League's Winnipeg Jets. In his first professional season, he played 58 regular-season games and finished with a 28-22-5 record, 2.58 goals-against average and .921 save percentage. Hellebuyck was the starting netminder for the Eastern Conference in the AHL All-Star Game.

UPDATE - April 20

Forward Stefan Matteau (Chicago, Ill./Albany Devils) has been added to the 2015 U.S. Men's National Team. Matteau previously represented the United States as a member of the 2014 U.S. National Junior Team that competed at the IIHF World Junior Championship in Malmo, Sweden. He was also a member of USA Hockey's National Team Development Program for two seasons (2010-12).

UPDATE - April 18

Forward Jack Eichel (North Chelmsford, Mass./Boston University) has been added to the 2015 U.S. Men's National Team.

Eichel will be representing the United States for the fifth time in IIHF competition. A two-time U.S. National Junior Team member (2014, 2015), Eichel was captain of the U.S. squad that competed in the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship in Montreal and Toronto. He also served as an alternate captain for the gold-medal-winning U.S. entry in the 2014 IIHF Men's Under-18 World Championship and helped the United States earn a silver medal in that same event in 2013.

Eichel played the 2014-15 campaign as a member of the Boston University men's ice hockey team and became just the second freshman ever to capture the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, significant of the top player in NCAA Division I men's ice hockey. He helped the Terriers advance to the NCAA championship game in Boston and finished the season as the nation's leader in points (71), assists (45), power play points (23) and plus-minus (23).

Prior to his time at BU, Eichel played two seasons at USA Hockey's National Team Development Program where he collected 139 points (67-72) in 111 games.

UPDATE - April 16

Defenseman Zach Redmond (Traverse City, Mich.) has been added to the 2015 U.S. Men's National Team roster. The Colorado Avalanche and former Ferris State University defenseman will be representing the U.S. for the first time.

Forward Jimmy Vesey (North Reading, Mass./Harvard University) has been added to the 2015 U.S. Men's National Team. Vesey previously contributed to the 2013 U.S. National Junior Team that captured the gold medal at the IIHF World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia. 


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Hockey announced today the first 15 players of the 2015 U.S. Men's National Team that will compete in the 2015 International Ice Hockey Federation Men’s World Championship May 1-17 in Ostrava and Prague, Czech Republic. The initial group of players includes one goaltender, six defensemen and eight forwards.

The group is highlighted by defenseman Justin Faulk (Carolina Hurricanes), a member of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team. In five previous IIHF-sanctioned events, Faulk has helped the U.S. to three medals (2013 men's worlds-bronze; 2011 world juniors-bronze; 2010 U18 men's worlds-gold). The U.S. roster will also include 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship gold medalists Jake Gardiner (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Jeremy Morin (Columbus Blues Jackets), and 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship gold medalists Connor Murphy (Arizona Coyotes) and Mike Reilly (University of Minnesota).

Among the 15 players named to the 2015 U.S. Men's National Team, 11 have skated for a U.S. National Team and have combined to win 13 medals in IIHF World Championship play.
