The U.S. Men’s National Team faces Czech Republic in the quarterfinals of the 2014 International Ice Hockey Federation Men’s World Championship. The U.S. placed second in Group B, while the Czechs were third in Group A. The game will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network on a 30-minute delay with coverage beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET. NBC Sports will provide a live stream of the game via NBC Sports Live Extra, beginning at 9 a.m. ET. Today’s winner will face either Canada or Finland in the semifinals Saturday (May 24).
Team USA is 4-1-1-5-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) against the Czech Republic in the IIHF Men’s World Championship. Four meetings have occurred in the playoffs, including the most recent match-up in 2011, which the Czechs won 4-0. In both of the world championships that Peter Laviolette previously coached, Team USA faced the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals. The U.S. won the 2004 meeting in a shootout en route to earning the bronze medal. In 2005, Team USA suffered a 3-2 shootout loss.
