STOCKHOLM – The U.S. Mens National Team lost to Switzerland, 3-0, here today in the semifinals of the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation Mens World Championship. Team USA will play Finland in the bronze-medal game Sunday (May 19) at 4:00 p.m. local time (10:00 a.m. EDT) and NBC Sports Network will televise the game live.

John Gibson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Anaheim Ducks) stopped all 18 shots he faced in the first period, keeping the game scoreless heading into the first intermission.

Switzerland scored the game’s decisive goal on a two-on-one opportunity at 10:01 of the second stanza. Nino Niederreiter received a pass in the right slot and quickly lifted the puck high into the net.

Team USA was held scoreless on its second of two power plays in the game early in the third period.

Julian Walker blasted a slap shot into the U.S. net at 10:11 to double the Swiss advantage.

The U.S. pulled Gibson for an extra attacker with 2:19 left in regulation, however, Switzerland scored into the empty net in the final moments to cap the scoring.

The U.S. Mens National Team is seeking its first medal since 2004 when it faces Finland tomorrow. The U.S. beat Finland last week in the preliminary round, 4-1.
