Johnson, Trouba, Palushaj Join Roster

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Defenseman Erik Johnson (Bloomington, Minn./Colorado Avalanche/Univ. of Minnesota), forward Aaron Palushaj (Northville, Mich./Colorado Avalanche/Univ. of Michigan) and defenseman Jacob Trouba (Rochester, Mich./Winnipeg Jets/Univ. of Michigan) have been added to the the 2013 U.S. Men's National Team that will compete at the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship, USA Hockey announced today. The tournament is scheduled for May 3-19 in Helsinki, Finland, and Stockholm, Sweden.

Johnson has played for six U.S. National Teams, highlighted by the 2010 U.S. Men's Olympic Ice Hockey Team. He helped Team USA to a silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, B.C. He played on the U.S. Men's National Team at the 2007 IIHF Men's World Championship. Johnson skated in the 2006 and 2007 IIHF World Junior Championships, collecting a bronze medal in 2007. He helped Team USA win back-to-back gold medals at the 2005 and 2006 IIHF Men's Under-18 World Championships.

Palushaj previously represented Team USA at the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Trouba has won a gold medal at three of the four IIHF World Championship events in which he has competed. Most recently, he was an alternate captain for the gold-medal winning U.S. squad at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia. Trouba earned the directorate award as the tournament's best defenseman. He was a member of the 2012 U.S. National Junior Team as well. Trouba helped Team USA win gold medals at the 2011 and 2012 IIHF Men's Under-18 World Championships.

The first 15 players for the U.S. Men's National Team were announced on April 24. Team USA now has eight forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders on its roster. The maximum roster size is 25, which includes three goaltenders and 22 forwards and defensemen.

NOTES: Seventeen of 18 announced members of Team USA played U.S. college hockey ... Seven of the 18 players announced are products of USA Hockey's National Team Development Program, including Matt Carle, Justin Faulk, Matt Hunwick, Erik Johnson, Danny Kristo, Jamie McBain and Jacob Trouba ... Seven NHL teams are represented on the roster. The Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Winnipeg Jets ... Joe Sacco, head coach of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche, was named head coach of the 2013 U.S. National Men's Team. Tim Army, Danton Cole and Phil Housley will serve as assistant coaches ... The 2013 U.S. Men's National Team is under the direction of the U.S. Men's National Team Advisory Group, led by Jim Johannson, assistant executive director of hockey operations for USA Hockey. Other members include NHL general managers Stan Bowman (Chicago), Paul Holmgren (Philadelphia), Dean Lombardi (Los Angeles), David Poile (Nashville), Ray Shero (Pittsburgh) and Dale Tallon (Florida) and NHL scouts Brian Burke (Anaheim) and Don Waddell (Pittsburgh) ... USA Hockey's international council, chaired by Tony Rossi, vice president of USA Hockey, has oversight responsibilities for all U.S. national teams ... Sixteen teams will compete at 2013 IIHF Men's World Championship. There will be two groups of eight with one group playing in Helsinki, Finland and the other playing in Stockholm, Sweden. The semifinals and medal games will be conducted in Stockholm.
